Additional/ Other Services

I am able to provide other support services such as second opinions, specific communication tools and resources (e.g. communication books or other visual supports), setting visits, or simply even additional advice and support to help you better understand any previous speech and language advice given.

Second Opinions

There may be times when a child is assessed by a Speech and Language Therapist but parents/carers disagree with some of the information, targets or advice given, or feel it is not an accurate representation of their child. There are many reasons why this occurs, but seeking a second opinion from a different Speech and Language Therapist may help to provide a more accurate profile of the child and their SLCN, or may confirm the findings of the original Speech and Language Therapy assessment.

Communication Tools and Resources

Some children may require bespoke and/or robust communication tools such as communication books or specific activity workbooks. Many of these require access to expensive software and can take a long time to complete. At Communican we have access to some of this software and extensive experience of creating and editing communication tools and resources.

Setting Visits and Attendance at Multi-Professional Meetings

Speech and Language Therapists play an integral role within the team of professionals involved in a child's care. Because of this, it may be appropriate for them to visit the child's education setting to observe and advise on how to best support communication in the setting. Similarly it may be appropriate for Speech and Language Therapists to attend multi-professional meetings such as EHCP annual reviews, child in need reviews, or emergency meetings about the child's care and presentation.
