Assessment

Assessments are essential in identifying the specific strengths and areas of need that a child or young person may have in relation to their speech, language and communication. They are essential in gathering information and identifying targets before any therapy or interventions can commence.

An assessment with Communican Speech and Language Therapy will include a complete case history and background information gathering. following this, a mixture of observation, informal and/or formal assessments will be completed according to the specific areas of need or concern highlighted.

All assessment appointments will be approximately 90 minutes (up to 2 hours) long and will usually take place in the child or young person's home. Following this face to face appointment, a report containing a summary of strengths and difficulties, advice and targets to work on will be completed. I aim to provide this report within 4 weeks of completing the assessment.

 

There may be occasions where additional assessment sessions are required. The cost of these may vary depending on the type of assessment and additional time needed. This will be discussed and agreed following the initial appointment if necessary.
